War of the Worldviews
By Jessica Greer
Thirty-two years ago, acclaimed Polish movie director Roman Polanski was charged with raping a 13-year-old girl after drugging her and giving her excessive amounts of alcohol. Polanski was 44 years old at the time, and fled the U.S for fear of being convicted and imprisoned like most rapists in America. He was recently detained in Switzerland as he arrived to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival, and may be extradited to the U.S., as he is considered a fugitive. Mr. Polanski is considered a controversial and brilliant film director who deserves nothing less than honor, so Hollywood has started their latest movement: Free Polanski! Meantime, the rest of America lives with the disgusting reality of a dirty old man who raped an underage girl.
This case has brought to the surface yet again the ongoing culture war over morality. After all, in Hollywood, this is a simple moral slip-up, and since it happened over three decades ago, it has been forgiven by time. Among those stars demanding Polanski’s release is Woody Allen, whose moral ability to judge in these matters is evidenced by his marriage at age 62 to his ex-wife’s 19-year-old adopted daughter. While shocked at the audacity of America to judge a sex offender, the Hollywood elite continues to slander the United States government and its legal system with their deviant immoral fascism.
“We’re a different kind of society,” said Whoopi Goldberg of her opinion that Polanski should not be charged with his crime in the U.S. “We see things differently. The world sees 13-year-olds and 14-year-olds in the rest of Europe… not everybody agrees with the way we see things…” No, they do not, Whoopi, and that is why The Netherlands has legalized prostitution and drugs, thus running amuck while Islam takes over their Western freedoms. The clash between American traditional values and many social elites has caused an ongoing culture war, with an onslaught of cultural modifications.
From the shift of economic establishments from capitalism to socialism, to legalizing forbidden unnatural lifestyles such as gay marriage and abortion, these issues have become more disturbing and challenging than ever before. Many parts of Europe have already succumbed to the nightmare of compromising their legal systems for the sake of “social progress.” Even in America powers are at work, seeking to devour all that represents the moral foundations of this country. The media and the public school system are two main agents that are constantly attempting to retrain the next generation. Again, all under the name of diversity and liberation. Yet these very same “free thinkers” despise the most fundamental forces that protect freedom and equality.
The moral war that rages in America goes far deeper than your child watching risky television. It is a mentality – an actual attack on anything that our founding fathers constructed and paid a bloody price for. As I began to think about the “social progress” that the new liberal world intended for our great nation, it became very clear that this new Utopia eliminated true equality, liberty, and freedom; because it sought to eliminate the Judeo-Christian God himself. Once again the question of “social progress” is posed. What is genuine and good progress? Here’s a bit of an American history lesson that I think reflects the utmost progress in a very short amount of time.
In 1620 the Mayflower landed at Plymouth Harbor carrying people who came across the sea in order to obtain religious freedom. Just one hundred and fifty-six years later the Declaration of Independence was constructed and acknowledged in 1776. By 1788, the Constitution was ratified; in 1781, the Articles of Confederation (Bill of Rights) were established. The First Amendment, which is every American citizen’s most powerful right – freedom of religion, of speech, right to assemble, and to petition – was accepted in 1791. By 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery; in 1870 the Fifteenth Amendment gave blacks an opportunity to vote, and by 1920 the Nineteenth Amendment gave women the right to vote.
Now, the American Revolution and all that followed after may not have necessarily been a smooth process (as in most cases, when one is creating the greatest nation under God) but the progress of this nation has been excellent, at worst, in what has actually been a very short amount of time. All these historical moments have one very distinct correlation, and that is their roots in Judeo-Christian values.
There has been something infallible behind all these progressive movements that have been based on the human worth given by our Creator, as stated in the Declaration of Independence. While America basks in genuine social freedom, it is vital that every American realizes that this equality comes at a price and must be protected despite cultural clashes. What is true equality? What is true freedom? Unfortunately, Mr. Polanski, equality does not mean that thirteen equals forty-four. In fact, a little fourth-grade math will tell you that would be an inequality. Real equality and freedom come from a higher moral system, a check-and-balance system as is set up within our own government. Moreover, it comes from a structure that keeps all men and women accountable for their behavior so as to protect the future security of that nation.
This is why judgment is not only necessary, but it is the moral responsibility of a nation. In II Chronicles 19:6-7, Jehoshaphat is warning the judges that have been appointed in each of the fortified cities of Judah: “Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for man, but for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. Now let the fear of the Lord be upon you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.” As the war against morality rages on in the highest courts of the land, it is most imperative that Americans realize that they, too, are accountable to God for upholding this country’s moral laws.
Psalm 9:16, 17 states: “The Lord is known by His justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. The wicked return to the grave, and all the nations that forget God.” Real forces that desire nothing less than the destruction of the Judeo-Christian foundations in this country are employing their strategies. This is a war that requires the fight of every Christian. The idea that “social progress” is wrapped up in a neat bomb that must destroy all the preexisting social structures, is a lie.
James Madison said this concerning these very moments of turmoil in America: “Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government.” Isaiah 59:14, 15 says: “So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter. Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice.”
America must maintain justice through law and morality if it desires continued prosperity and favor with God. Christians are responsible for being the voice of truth in the midst of such cultural and moral chaos. Ultimately, God sits on the throne and judges according to his righteousness. “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear” (Isaiah 59:1).
