Divine Moments

It was Wednesday and I was in the middle of my daily Bible reading when a text appeared on my phone. My cousin Christian had suffered a stroke about a month before, and had just been admitted to hospice. Her daughter and son had decided to take her off life support by Monday, the text said, but there was still time for me to go see her.
Yes, I’ll go… after I finish my daily Bible reading, I told myself.
Then I heard that inner voice say, You need to go now. Still, I attempted to finish my time with God, but again I heard: You need to go now!
I quickly got ready and was off to see my cousin. As I entered her room, the nurse was finishing with her care, and she told me that I could be with her as long as I wished.
She was in a coma, unable to speak. I walked over to her bedside and started to stroke her hair, and told her that God loves her and so do I.
It was at that very moment that the presence of the Holy Spirit filled the room, and as I held her right hand and led her in a sinner’s prayer, tears ran down from her eyes.
I asked her to move her fingers if she heard me and if she agreed to ask God to forgive her. I felt not only her fingers move in my hand, but she was trying to lift her hand up. When I helped her hold up her hand, I felt the Spirit of our Savior flow through us, and I didn’t want to let go or to move.
It was a divine moment that brought peace and salvation to my cousin.
The Word of God speaks in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 of a time to be born and a time to die, a time to kill and a time to heal; of a measure of time that has been given to each of us.
It is within this appointed time that God has also given us divine moments, according to His secret wisdom that has been hidden and destined before time began.
“But as it is written, ‘no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.’ Now the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God, for who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the Spirit of the man that is in him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God Now we have not received the Spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people” (I Corinthians 2:9-13).
Christians are believers and followers of Jesus Christ in a human body. Yet the Word of God in Galatians 5:25 says that since we live by the Spirit, we must also follow the Spirit. We must cultivate a sensitive ear to hear what the Spirit is speaking to us.
We must work to become more aware that we are not just mental (soul conscious) and physical (body conscious) beings. There is a spiritual being inside each of us as well. So we need to put a focus on the spirit in order to develop the spiritual man, so that we are on God’s straight path for our life.
Proverbs 20:21 tells us that the Lord’s lamp sheds light on a person’s life, searching the innermost parts. It is God’s Word that must be put first and to which we must give time so that we recognize those divine moments. When meditation in God’s Word is given first priority, to strengthen the spiritual man, then the peace of God which surpasses knowledge will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, it tells us in Philippians 4:7.
Proverbs 4:20-22 says, “My son, pay attention to my words; listen closely to my sayings. Don’t lose sight of them; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.”
In order to obtain instruction in God’s Word, our spirit needs to tune in and obey what the inner voice of the Spirit of God is saying to us. Since God speaks to our spirits by His Spirit, it’s our spiritual man (the new creature in Christ, as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17) that must be conscious of God’s will.
It is the Spirit of Truth that enlightens and guides us to His glory, and in a moment of time we can become a vessel for His use, to overcome the attacks of the devil, if we will only pray, obey, and listen for His voice.
In I John 4:4 it says: “You are of God, little children, and have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
As I left Christian’s hospital room and went to the car, I could only sit there and cry, as I recalled that during our recent time of fasting and prayer, Pastor Alvin Smith had said bring a soul to God for salvation.
Little did I even imagine that it would be my cousin, and that I would get to bring her to salvation as I obeyed the leading of God’s Spirit in that divine moment, just before she went to be with the Lord.
