Creation: God’s First Miracle
By Chris Maakestad
When I was boy, a frog becoming a prince was recognized as nothing more than a fairy tale. Now we are told that slime became a frog that became a prince – and this is to be taken as serious fact. That’s clearly not science, but if you don’t believe it, you can't be a part of the Real Scientist Club!
Sound ridiculous? It would be laughable if it weren’t true.
“I do not want to believe in God,” said Nobel Laureate George Wald. “Therefore, I chose to believe in that which I know is scientifically impossible: spontaneous generation arising to evolution.” You may recognize the term spontaneous generation as the theory proposing that life can arise spontaneously from non-living matter – a theory disproved by Louis Pasteur in the year 1859.
Charles Lyell wrote of his desire to “free the science from Moses” (a.k.a., the Bible) and Charles Darwin expressed a similar desire – as do many scientists today. What these people are revealing in their comments is their true motivation in subscribing to the uniformitarian view of the Universe rather than the creationist view. Or, as Romans 1:21 says, “Although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful but became futile in their thoughts.”
The definition of a miracle is a supernatural suspension of natural laws. In the first chapter of Genesis we read God's account of His creation in six literal days, and from the rest of the relevant chronology in the Bible we can calculate that this event occurred about 6,000 years ago. This certainly qualifies as God’s first miracle.
But even some Christians have an immediate problem with that chronology – because we’ve been told that supposedly accurate radioactive dating methods show millions and billions of years for the biological and geological features of the world.
To arrive at these dates, however, the daters employ numerous inconsistent assumptions coupled with circular reasoning, while ignoring any new findings that may contradict their own. Some, while disproved, are still perpetuated by hoaxes, falsification of the fossil record, and similar shenanigans.
In an attempt to check the validity of the lab methods and findings, scientists at ICR (Institute for Creation Research) took rock samples of a known age to be tested at one of the most internationally prestigious labs. The dates they received were preposterous. One lava rock from the last observed and document La Perouse lava flow on Maui in the year 1790, for example, was dated at 90 million years old.
Almost all modern textbooks that deal with the subject of origins claim that about 13.8 billion years ago everything in the universe exploded into existence with a big bang from a pea-size lump of super matter in about 3 seconds. But ask where the super pea came from, and there is no answer. Ask where life came from and the answer will be nowhere near scientifically sound – not even close! – and will fall apart under the scrutiny of basic critical thinking.
The fact is that no natural law has ever been observed that is capable of creating the Universe. No natural law has ever been observed that is capable of creating life from non-life. No natural law has ever been observed that is capable of creating and assembling the DNA that dictates the form, function, replication (by companion RNA), and adaption within designed limits of an organism. The DNA code alone is far more sophisticated and lengthy than any computer program ever conceived.
Basically, to embrace the evolutionary theory requires far more faith than it takes to embrace the Biblical Creation model. To believe that evolution could occur requires the level of imagination and belief in magical intervention that declares that the Starship Enterprise really flies. The theories of uniformitarian evolution and the Big Bang are not observable, repeatable science.
Operational science, which has brought us so many advances in technology, is testable and repeatable. Historic science requires assumptions that cannot be repeated or therefore proven. In these cases we must look for the best reasonable scientific explanation.
Because we have a large respect as a culture for anything scientific, we do not generally question anything taught in the name of science. But when scientific guesswork contradicts the Bible – God's account wins out every time. He is the only eye witness at Creation, after all, and as Christians we look for discoveries that confirm what God has told us already in His Word.
And these discoveries do exist – many of them. Scientists have found confirming evidences left and right. Because they are looking critically, creation scientists have found Carbon-14 in diamonds, coal, dinosaur bones, and every layer of the supposed Geologic Column. They have discovered pliable, stretchy tissue in dinosaur bones of many types, proving that it is impossible for them to be millions of years old.
Taken all together, this data is clear evidence that we live on a young earth – which also confirms the chronology found in God's given record.
Many scientists who were not Christians when they made their various discoveries have become creationists as a result. They have written books and made videos full of their testimonies. Sadly, their discoveries and testimonies may never make it into public school textbooks, because they contradict the ruling evolutionary paradigm.
Answer in Genesis CEO Ken Ham debated TV personality Bill Nye in 2014. In a post-debate interview with the New York Times discussing his book Undeniable (2014), Nye leveled the claim that parents who teach their children creation will rob them of the critical thinking skills necessary to thrive in a scientific age, and will cause them to feel compelled to suppress their common sense in order to interpret what they see in nature. The problem with Nye's claim is that molecules-to-man evolution is not the same as critical thinking or developing technology.
Many scientific disciplines were pioneered and/or heavily influenced by creationists such as Kepler, Newton, Boyle, Linnaeus, Euler, Faraday, Babbage, Joule, Pasteur, Lister, Maxwell, and Lord Kelvin. Their ability to innovate and think critically was not at all hurt by their Christian faith. On the contrary: In every case, they remarked that their Bible-based faith bolstered their desire to learn and to seek out the mechanisms by which God's creation functioned.
Dr. Richard Dawkins, another outspoken atheist and author of the book The God Delusion (2006) said, “It is absolutely safe to say that if you meet somebody who claims not to believe in evolution, that person is ignorant, stupid, or insane (or wicked, but I'd rather not consider that).” Dawkins contends that creationists will not even look at the evidence for biological evolution; that they have been brainwashed. Is there any basis to this claim?
Far from it. Creationists as a group tend rather to dive in and examine it all.
The biblical worldview that we use to examine the supposed evidence for evolution causes us to look further at the natural laws and examine whether natural selection and mutation could possibly account for molecules-to-man evolution. The resounding answer after much scrutiny is that they can't.
Instead, these factors clearly show evidence for the genius of the Creator, as it tells us in Romans 1:18-20: “Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”
Creationist articles, books, and museums regularly cite the specific evolutionary arguments and then test them using the most rigorous scientific and philosophical tools available. We desperately want to know the whole truth so we can speak accurately about the Creator and His handiwork. We have no fear of where the evidence will lead, because we know it all points to God's glory.
The miracle of Creation and the fall of man are foundational steps in preaching Christ and the cross. Dr. Dawkins said he'd rather not consider that creationists may be evil. What could be more evil than to know the truth that can set us free from eternal danger and not shout a warning of God's coming judgment?
“But you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
