Suicide

Suicide
By Sharon Byrd

I am giving up and I cannot see,

Past the water covering me,

Waves of pity and self-neglect,

Nowhere to go or what to expect,

Except maybe You…

Doors of opportunity limit their selection.

When did suicide become the option?

Worse than that, when did it be

The only door for me?

The only thing I see…?

Maybe it was when I lost my sight,

Weak decisions of wrong and right,

Playing the border as not to cross,

But close enough to be lost.

Maybe You…

Maybe You can help again,

Strengthen my resolve, my will to win,

To laugh, and to live, and to love again,

Friend?

I want to hold on, to tie my rope

To more of me, not just my throat.

Around my waist, secure it tight,

And maybe, just maybe, You might

Help me…

Why the taking of my own life,

Seems to be the answer to save my life,

How could it be? Help me see,

Me…

Suicide… can you hear the voice?

Can you hear anything louder than suicide?

Listen…   Wait for it...

Do you hear it?  A whisper…                 Live!

Do you hear it? Listen again…        I love you!

Did you hear it that time?

Suicide, you have no place here!         She is mine!

I am giving up and I cannot see,

Past the waters surrounding me,

Waves of pity and self-neglect,

Nowhere to go or what to expect,

Except to You!

Certainly faith says,

There’s You.
