Behaving Like a Christian

Behaving Like a Christian

By Sharon Byrd
(Based on Romans 12:9-21)

Love must be sincere for it to be understood.

Abhor what is evil, and cling to what is good.

To behave like a Christian means to honor one another,

Do not put your own need before your own Christian brother.

Do not lag in your diligence or lack in your zeal,

Be fervent in your spirit, serving the Lord and His will.

Be joyful in hope and be patient in affliction;

Be faithful in prayer; bring the Lord your petition.

Share with God’s people in kind words and good deeds,

Practice being hospitable; help the saints that are in need.

Bless those who persecute you. Bless and not curse or scorn,

Rejoice with those rejoicing, and mourn with those who mourn.

Do your best to live in harmony; to be of the same mind.

If you want to be treated kindly, then you must be kind.

You must be willing to associate with people of low position;

As once were some of you, before God gave you definition.

Live at peace if at all possible – as far as it depends on you –

Live at peace with all men; do what is right, what is true.

Do not be conceited because, really, what have you grown

That the Lord did not give you? Or were you wise on your own?

It is not our right to take vengeance, it is the Lord’s to avenge;

Repay no evil for evil; have regard for all men.

Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath.

‘It is mine,’ says the Lord, ‘to avenge to the last.’

Do this instead:

If your enemy is hungry, feed him;

If he is thirsty, give him something to drink

In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.*

Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.

By following God’s simple standards, we can overcome.

Our sights are set higher; there is a race to be won.

God says get wisdom, but don’t forget understanding.

His Word is perfect and His laws may seem demanding.

But in the end, what is behavior without perfect instruction?

A house built on sand is a house destined for destruction.

So behave like a Christian, or “act saved” in most cases.

Let all unbelievers know exactly where your faith is.

“The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”  I Peter 4:7-8
