Your Promise Preserves My Life
Living words from Psalm 119
By Sharon Byrd

My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

In the night I remember Your name; at midnight I rise to give You thanks.

I have considered my ways and turned. I rejoice in your promise.

I am a friend to all who fear You.

May those who fear You rejoice when they see me.

I have chosen the way of truth; You have set my heart free.

You are my portion and I have promised to obey You.

Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I believe.

I have put my hope in Your word; You yourself have taught me.

Give me understanding that I may live.

Fulfill Your promise; remember Your word.

Your word is eternal. All things serve You.

The unfolding of Your words gives light:

It gives understanding to the simple.

When will You act? For Your law is being broken.

Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for Your law is not obeyed.

To all perfection I see a limit, but Your commands are boundless.

Your statutes are my inheritance, and that is the joy of my heart.

Your promises have been thoroughly tested.

May my cry come before You. Give me understanding.

Let me live, that I may praise You.

Save me, for I am yours.

Accept, O Lord, the willing praise of my mouth.

Give me discernment. You are near.

Great peace have they who love Your law,

And nothing can make them stumble.

My comfort in my suffering is this:

Your promise preserves my life.

It is time for thee, Lord, to work: for they have made void Thy law.
