Revival from the Inside Out

Elvira Bujanda

Man was created by God as a complex being with a spirit, soul, and body. In our journey here on earth, we may face hard times and trials; our bodies may grow weak and weary, but don’t lose heart! God says he will renew you from the inside out.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 says, “Therefore we do not lose heart, though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. So we fix our eyes not in what is seen but on what is unseen, for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

Though we dwell in these earthen bodies, we are still spiritual beings, and by faith our inner man is strengthened even during those times of physical and emotional weakness.

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us,” it tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:7.

That treasure is the power and presence of God deposited inside our bodies of clay. People see the clay pot, the outer man; but the inner man is where we experience love, peace, hope, and joy.

The whisper of God’s voice comes from our inner man. He speaks to the mind, heart, soul, and spirit. Proverbs 4:20-22 says, “My son, pay attention to my words; listen closely to my saying. Don’t lose sight of them. Keep them within your heart, for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.”

It is God’s desire that our inner man be strengthened in His truth, as Paul relates in Romans 7:22-23: “For in my inner being I delight in God’s law.”

The Bible tells us in Galatians chapter 5 that we have not received the spirit of this world, but the Spirit of God, which has been freely given to us: the Holy Spirit. It tells us that since we live by the Spirit, we must also walk in the Spirit, seeking God’s instruction and guidance.

As we focus on the Spirit of God, our inner man becomes strong, enabling us to live for Him day by day, allowing His Spirit to guide us as it says in Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light unto my path.”

Philippians 4:7 tells us that if we give first priority to strengthening the spiritual man, then the peace of God which passes knowledge will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

True wisdom doesn’t come from amassing knowledge, but from applying to our daily lives the spiritual wisdom that God deposits in our inner man.

When we put our faith and trust in God’s Word, He strengthens us from the inside out and we won’t grow weary and weak.

Isaiah 40:29-31 says, “He gives strength to the weary and increases power to the weak. Even the youths grow tired and weary and the young will stumble and fall but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wing like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”

When you obey the voice of God, it opens your heart and mind up for a relationship between your spirit and His Spirit. 1 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold: all things have become new.”

As your deepening love for Jesus invites more of His presence, your faith in Him expands and God speaks by His Spirit to your inner man: your spiritual man, the new creature in Christ.

As you listen, you become conscious of God’s will. As your spiritual man becomes attuned to God’s will, His presence fills your mind with light and peace, lifting you up above all your circumstances and bringing you into an even closer walk with Jesus.

As the Spirit of Truth guides you to Him, in a moment of time, you can become a vessel for His use and overcome the attacks of the devil, bringing glory to God. Feelings of emptiness, weakness, and inadequacy in the face of life’s storms will disappear as His light shines through for you in every situation.

He watches and He is waiting for you to call upon Him because He cares and He loves you.

As you listen to the voice of the Spirit in the inner man, praying and obeying, He helps you overcome anxiety, brokenness, loneliness, bitterness, anger and discouragement.

Developing quality time with the Lord will birth inside you a new spiritual life of Christ-likeness. Scripture reading must become a central focus of the inner man’s life.

Reading the Bible is necessary for spiritual growth, to keep your spiritual man strong. Just as the human man can become weak and unhealthy from lack of daily nourishment, so too the inner man can become weak if not nourished daily with God’s Word.

As you read, you should claim His promises and apply them to your life, conversing with God throughout your day in prayer. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 gives us these instructions: “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Ephesians 3:14-16 encourages us to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man. As you stay thankful and stay focused on His presence and His promises, you find your spirit will be strengthened by His Spirit, and He gets the glory.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations I will be exalted in the earth.”

As you become rooted in Christ Jesus, you develop spiritual qualities. The fruits of the Spirit He tells about in Galatians 5:22-23 will grow in you: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

The new mindset that grows in your inner man will fill you with inner power, inner peace, unconditional love, humility, compassion, righteousness, forgiveness, wisdom, and joy.

The flourishing of your spiritual man produces a holy lifestyle. 2 Peter 1:3-4 says that He has given us great and precious promises so that through them we may partake of the divine nature. Our hearts and actions become pure and the light of God’s presence shines through us into the world.

God’s stronghold, now found inside of us because His Spirit inhabits our spirit, makes us overcomers through the divine power of Christ Jesus, and this unites us all as the body of Christ, the Church.

Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace, and be thankful.” When you begin to realize that the Spirit of Christ actually is living inside of you, in your inner man, you may be surprised to find you have continual peace in any circumstance.

All the pieces of your life will fall into place as you remember that it is Christ in you who is the hope of glory – because His love has an eternal grip on you, from the inside out.

“But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” 2 Peter 3:18.
