God Blessed America

God made a covenant with the people who first came.
Americans fought for freedom so things wouldn’t be the same.
They asked God to honor hearts perfect toward Him,
Hear from heaven, heal their land, and forgive them of their sin.

God blessed America, and what a nation we became!
Then we left our first love and have only us to blame.
Look at Chronicles’ history, how the kings all turned away;
Look closer at what God did to the people of that day.

The Lord appeared to Solomon and said, ‘I’ll make you a deal.’
God provided an escape clause – a warning, if you will.
‘When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain,
Or command the locusts to devour the land,

If My people (God’s people), who are called by My Name,
Would humble themselves, bow down and refrain;
If My people would pray, and seek My face,
Then I will hear from Heaven, I will mark that place.
And I will forgive their sins.

I would turn from them My anger,
I would turn from them My wrath,
I would honor My covenant,
As I did with nations past.

If you walk as your father did, like David did, before Me,
Do all I command, observe all My laws and decrees,
I will establish your throne as I covenanted with David,
Your father before you. He listened when I said,
“You shall never fail to have a man rule over Israel’.”

Now look at our great nation, led by thing after thing,
Following ourselves just like Israel, king after king,
Everyone doing what is good in their sight.
Never worked before, and it still is not right.

If our people, God’s people, would humble ourselves and pray,
I believe God would turn as He did in Solomon’s day,
And honor His covenant of old.

"But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot Israel from My land which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for My Name. — 2 Chronicles 7:19-20
